Engineering Internships

Allegheny County, with a population of approximately 1.3 million, is the second largest county in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and has used a Home Rule form of government since 2000.  The Department of Public Works (DPW) maintains 521 bridges and 340 miles of roads and provides grounds maintenance for nine county parks consisting of over 12,000 acres of park land.  In addition, DPW procures, maintains and repairs the county fleet comprising 730 vehicles and 201 heavy equipment assets.

The Engineering Division offers internship opportunities to students enrolled in an engineering program at an accredited university and have basic computer skills.  Work schedule is somewhat flexible during daylight hours Monday through Friday. 

Sample work assignments may include updating and developing the bridge asset management program, assisting in the preparation of work orders for bridge repairs, fielding view construction projects, and assisting design projects throughout various stages of development.
