Allegheny County Parks Activities & Events for January 9 - February 3

PITTSBURGH – The Allegheny County Parks Department announces its activities and events schedule for January 9-February 3. Newly added activities and events are highlighted in yellow. All events are free unless otherwise noted. For additional information, visit the County Parks website. Locate facilities and get directions on the County Parks Google Map page. The Parks Department is sponsoring a winter fun photo contest throughout January. Prizes include ice skating and skiing passes. Take a photo of you, your family or friends enjoying winter activities in the County Parks, such as the Boyce Park ice maze, ski slopes and snow tubing area, North Park ice rink or South Park ice rink. Submit your photo on our Facebook page or via Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #ACWinterFunPhotoContest. Then check out all of the submissions and vote for your favorite.

L.L. Bean Outing Club Hike to a Winter Brunch 

Free. Easy activity level. Open to ages 8 & older. Ages 8-14 must be accompanied by a participating adult. Ages 15-17 may participate alone after parent or guardian has signed appropriate release form. Leashed, people friendly, vaccinated, well socialized outdoor dogs are welcome. Grab your backpack stove and thermos, and then join L.L. Bean Pittsburgh Outing Club on this free outing in beautiful North Park as we hike to a Winter Potluck Brunch. Venture Outdoors Winter Brew Tasting Hike 

$36 for non-members. $27 for Venture Outdoors members. Minimum age 21. Hike 2 to 3 miles of scenic trails and hilly terrain while learning about the natural history of Boyce Park. The hike will be followed by a seasonal sampling of handpicked beers from nearby Rivertowne Pour House along with appetizers. Get more information & register online

L.L. Bean Full "Wolf Moon" Hike and/or Snowshoe Walk 

Free. Open to ages 8 & older. Ages 8-14 must be accompanied by a participating adult. Ages 15-17 may participate alone after parent or guardian has signed appropriate release form. We will hike, snowshoe (conditions permitting) or both through the North Park Golf Course under the full wolf moon. Half way through, we will pause for hot chocolate. 

An announcement will be made by 3:00 p.m. on the day of outing indicating whether we will be hiking, snowshoeing or both. Snowshoes and supporting equipment are not provided by L.L. Bean for this outing. Hike distance will be approximately 4 miles. Snowshoe distance could be 2-3 miles. Get more information & register online.

Venture Outdoors Day Trek: Lite – Hartwood Acres 

$10 for non-members. $6 for Venture Outdoors members. Spend an afternoon outdoors at Hartwood Acres exploring trails and preserved historical architecture, while getting some exercise. With experienced guides to lead the way, participants will learn about the rich history of the park as one of the largest and most spectacular country estates in the region.
