Allegheny County Parks Activities & Events for December 10-16

PITTSBURGH – The Allegheny County Parks Department today announced its activities and events schedule for December 10-16. All events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted. For additional information, call 412-350-2455 or visit www.alleghenycounty.us/parks.

Holiday Candlelight Tours 

$6 per person. Every room in the mansion is decorated in keeping with the season. Advance reservations are required by calling 412-767-9200. These tours fill quickly, so reserve early!

Latodami Environmental Education Center Preschool Children's Program 

Free. The program is specifically designed to introduce young children to the outdoors. This class is very hands-on, and we spend most of our time outside. Each child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who will be actively assisting in the teaching & learning process. Dress well for outdoor explorations – we do get wet & dirty!

Free. Three-week class that engages students in practical, down to earth ways to relax. Class includes discussions on food, scents, breathing techniques, and acupuncture points. Free. Originally started as a program for stroke & heart patients, this nature group has expanded to any interested adult. The informal group meets rain or shine every Thursday of the year. L.L. Bean Turkey Day Preparation Series: Final Week 

Free. Open to ages 10 & older. Ages 10-14 must be accompanied by a participating adult. Ages 15-17 may participate alone after a parent has signed the appropriate release form. Join L.L. Bean's Outdoor Discovery School Instructor John Mrdjenovich for a seven*week program designed to get you outside and increase you fitness activity. Each week will have a different challenge with increased difficulty. Program overview: designed at the beginner to intermediate levels; all fitness levels are welcome; great for those who want to increase endurance or maintain weight; “warm up” for hunters who are getting ready to trek gear into the woods.  

This week’s challenge is a 12-mile hike in 4 hours carrying at least 10 pounds. Get more information online.

Venture Outdoors Shepherd’s Pie Hike
