PITTSBURGH – Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald
today announced that the Medical Examiner’s Office has received “Bike Friendly
Employer” designation from Bike Pittsburgh. The office features a bike commuting
information kiosk, secure and covered bike parking, bike repair kit, and
employee showers and changing rooms.
“Our goal is to make bike commuting
a viable option for as many of our employees as possible,” said Fitzgerald.
“We’re currently working on improvements at our downtown locations, including
the Courthouse, County Office Building and One Smithfield Street, to make them
bike friendly as well. In the long-term, we would like to make bike commuting
enhancements to other facilities throughout the county.”
Examiner’s Office, which is located at 1520 Penn Avenue in the Strip District
along a major bike commuting corridor, is making its bike tools and repair
resources publicly available.
“If any bike commuters find themselves with
a flat tire, brake problems or other issues, they’re welcome to stop in the
Medical Examiner’s Office and use its bike repair kit,” added Fitzgerald.
Last October, the Kane Regional Center in Ross Twp. became the first
government building to receive Bike Pittsburgh’s “Bike Friendly Employer”
