Allegheny County Parks Activities & Events for Nov. 5-Nov. 11

Horses with Hope Program 

One-time application fee of $15. Each 45-minute session is $40. Pre-registration is required by calling Joanne Murdy at 412-607-8075 or Anne Davis at 615-513-4106. Several medical forms & releases are also required.  

Horses with Hope is a faith-based, non-profit organization that provides therapeutic riding and other equine-related activities to enhance the physical, mental, social & emotional needs of children & adults. Each session is taught by a PATH International certified instructor & trained volunteers who lead the horse and use side-walkers on each side of the rider. Each rider is instructed on horsemanship, grooming, tacking & mounted riding. The skills are determined by the rider’s capabilities & the instructor, while focusing on as much independence as possible. We are committed to providing safe, quality programs for children & adults. Free. Originally started as a program for stroke & heart patients, this nature group has expanded to any interested adult. The informal group meets rain or shine every Thursday of the year. Local naturalists guide these enlightening, leisurely paced walks. New nature adventures & discoveries every week. Dress well for outdoor walking.

Marshall Mangler Mountain Bike Race 

$25/ $30 day of event. All proceeds from the race will go to Pittsburgh Trails Advocacy Group (PTAG), which dedicates its time to help maintain, build and protect the multi-use trails. The course is 90% singletrack trails and 10% road. Trails are well maintained and ridden daily by local riders. There will be youth (8-15 years old), beginner, sport, veteran, single-speed, and expert courses. Awards will be given to the top 3 men and women in each category.

LL Bean Turkey Day Preparation Series: Week 2 – 7.5 Mile Hike 

Free. This outing is open to ages 10 and up, with children 10 to 14 years of age accompanied by a participating adult. Children 15 to 17 years old may participate alone after their parent has signed the appropriate release form. Participants are welcome to attend any or all outings. You do not have to participate in one to attend another.

Free. The White Oak Park PTAG stewards are working on the final details of this ongoing workday. Participants are asked to bring gloves, wear sturdy footwear, long pants and a long sleeve shirt. Eye protection is encouraged. Water will be provided. Please bring your own water bottle to reduce waste. Food will be provided at the start and lunch will be served at noon. Please bring an outdoor chair.
