Exemplary Employee Award Presented to Manager of DHS’ Director’s Action Line

PITTSBURGH – Allegheny County Manager Willy McKain announced today that the County has presented its third Exemplary Employee Award to Mr. Dan Robinson, manager of the Director’s Action Line within the Department of Human Services.

“One of the most important things that we do in this county is serve our residents, particularly those who are most at-risk. The Director’s Action Line ensures that the concerns and complaints from our clients/consumers, their families, allied professionals, elected officials and residents of our county are heard,” said County Executive Rich Fitzgerald. “Mr. Dan Robinson leads the Director’s Action Line in that work. He has embraced innovation and continues to improve the service provided through training and quality improvement review, leading by example. We are grateful for his dedication and work.”

Mr. Robinson was nominated by a colleague, Karen Blumen, for his work. Through his work, concerns and complaints are immediately addressed and, if needed, investigated. He is committed to a high level of professionalism and assists residents in addressing questions about the human service system. Since 1999, Dan has taken on the task of managing the Director’s Action Line (DAL) with enthusiasm and initiative, ensuring that line staff receive proper training, working with IT to perfect and complete a web-based system to log the calls they receive, and then utilizes that information to help the Department of Human Services (DHS) to identify areas in need of customer service quality improvement. Dan maintains strong relationships with DHS staff and provider agencies and reinforces the benefits of the Action Line at every opportunity. Last year alone, the DAL fielded almost 13,000 calls and investigated more than 1,600 concerns.

“In Allegheny County, we have many assets. One of our strongest is our employees,” said County Manager McKain. “Mr. Robinson has taken his work above and beyond what is expected of him and continues to strive to improve the experiences of our residents with whom he interacts. I am thankful to have him as part of the DHS team.” 

Mr. Robinson was surprised at his workplace this morning where it was announced that he was a winner of the Exemplary Employee Award. He was presented with a joint County proclamation from the County Executive and County Council, and was also awarded an Allegheny County Parks ski pass for the 2013 Skiing Season. The Exemplary Employee Award will be presented periodically throughout the year in recognition of exceptional achievements by a county employee or employee group. Nominations can be submitted in writing or online at http://www.alleghenycounty.us/manager/award.aspx.
