Horses with Hope is a faith-based, non-profit organization that provides therapeutic riding and other equine-related activities to enhance the physical, mental, social & emotional needs of children & adults. Each session is taught by a PATH International certified instructor & trained volunteers who lead the horse and use side-walkers on each side of the rider. Each rider is instructed on horsemanship, grooming, tacking & mounted riding. The skills are determined by the rider’s capabilities & the instructor, while focusing on as much independence as possible. We are committed to providing safe, quality programs for children & adults. Free. Originally started as a program for stroke & heart patients, this nature group has expanded to any interested adult. The informal group meets rain or shine every Thursday of the year. Local naturalists guide these enlightening, leisurely paced walks. Enjoy new nature adventures & discoveries every week. Dress well for outdoor walking.

Freaky 5K, Haunted Hill 10K, Petrifying Pet Walk & Trick or Treat Trot 

Join in Pittsburgh's most fun, family-friendly race. This year, we're teaming up with Horror Realm and East Coast Horror Group to bring you the freakiest 5K and most haunted 10K course. More than 20 zombies will be walking the course to guide you through the terrifying trails of North Park.  

We have everything you need to celebrate the most bewitching holiday! Children in grades 6 & below may participate in the first Trick-or-Treat Trot. Every participant receives an official finisher’s medal at the finish line! After the race, kids may join their families and create a Witches Brew with a Thrill of the Hunt Scavenger Hunt. Then, parents/guardians and older siblings can get ready for the 5K and 10K races while children visit the Ghostly Grove for games and activities (childcare services are offered by Sweet Dreams Child Care). Walk & Roll for GBS/CIDP - Greater Pittsburgh 

No registration fee, just support the cause by collecting donations. Funds raised through the walk & roll will help us to achieve our vision that every person afflicted with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP) or variants has convenient access to early and accurate diagnosis, affordable treatments & dependable support services. Entry fee is $25 for one event & $20 additional to enter a second event. There’s a $5-per-event discount for multiple players from the same family. Fee includes free drinks & snacks. However, it is especially designed for amateur players who have never competed in public and who want to test their skills against fellow amateurs, as well as against the region’s top players. The two-day event will feature a wide range of events for players of all ages and skill levels. All events offer trophies for 1st and 2nd place, plus cash prizes for the Pro “A” Invitational Tournament. North Park Stewardship Day-Pitt Makes a Difference Day Litter Cleanup & Invasive Plant Species Control 

Friends of North Park is partnering with the North Area Environmental Council, Hampton Township, County Parks Department, and University of Pittsburgh to organize this Stewardship Day. A busload of approximately 50 Pitt students will be leading the effort as part of “Pitt Makes a Difference Day” to clean up litter from various locations throughout North Park, remove tires from a site in Hampton Township, and control invasive plant species near the Latodami Nature Center. We welcome additional community groups and individuals to join us. Gloves, safety vests & trash bags will be supplied. Wear sturdy footwear, long pants & long sleeve shirts. Wagman Observatory Dark Sky Star Party 

Free. Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh (AAAP) members give a guided tour of the sky – an introduction to the constellations and brighter stars. Wagman Observatory’s two large, permanent telescopes will be open and staffed. There are also displays inside the observatory. Visitors are also welcome to use portable telescopes set up by AAAP members. Attendees may bring their own telescopes, and AAAP members will assist with set up and operation if needed. Many visitors bring binoculars or just use their eyes. People with disabilities are encouraged to attend. Portable telescopes are easily positioned for viewing by anyone. A parking pad gives wheelchair vans easy access to the observatory. There is no running water, so comfort facilities consist of a portable toilet. No food or drinks are served, so visitors are encouraged to bring their own snacks & non-alcoholic beverages. Lawn chairs are also recommended.

Adeline's Angels 5K Run & 1-Mile Family Fun Walk 

$25 for adults; $10 for kids ages 6-17. Adeline was a beautiful & bright little girl who brought joy & happiness to everyone who came in contact with her. Tragically, she died on October 18, 2012, at the age of 14 months. The cause of Adeline's death remains unanswered. Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC) is the name given to a sudden unexplained death of a child over the age of 12 months. It is a diagnosis of exclusion given when no other cause can be found. In memory of Adeline, we have created this event. Our hope is for a future free of SUDC. In honor of Adeline, proceeds will benefit the SUDC Program of the CJ Foundation to fund research, increase awareness& strengthen family support programs. Get more information & register online.

Festival in the Park Honoring the Memory of Kim, Brenna & Mikaela Griffith 

Free admission. The Plum Borough Education Association is proud to host the 3rd Annual Festival in the Park. This family-friendly event will include: costume parade; trick or treating; children's activities; food vendors; raffle baskets; face painting, Airheads Balloon Art; Comedian Howard Mincone; Twinkle Toes the Clown; Frownie Brownie, Plum Mustang; Kenny Kangaroo; Kennywood Trolley; and the Pirate Parrot. 

This year's festival will be held in memory of Kim, Brenna & Mikaela Griffith who lost their lives much too soon in a flash flood on Washington Boulevard on August 19, 2011.  

Proceeds from this year's festival will benefit the Susan Pinal Memorial Fund. Susan Ann (Clancy) Pinal, teacher & librarian for Plum Borough School District, passed away on May 30, 2013, at the age of 36 as a result of bilateral pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis. Susan was the wife of Rudy Pinal and mother of two young boys, Daniel & Michael. All proceeds will assist in Daniel & Michael's future educational endeavors.
