Allegheny County Parks Activities & Events for October 15-21

PITTSBURGH – The Allegheny County Parks Department today announced its activities and events schedule for October 15-21. All events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted. For additional information, call 412-350-2455 or visit /parks.

One-time application fee of $15. Each 45-minute session is $40. Pre-registration is required by calling Joanne Murdy at 412-607-8075 or Anne Davis at 615-513-4106. Several medical forms & releases are also required.  

Horses with Hope is a faith-based, non-profit organization that provides therapeutic riding and other equine-related activities to enhance the physical, mental, social & emotional needs of children & adults. Each session is taught by a PATH International certified instructor & trained volunteers who lead the horse and use side-walkers on each side of the rider. Each rider is instructed on horsemanship, grooming, tacking & mounted riding. The skills are determined by the rider’s capabilities & the instructor, while focusing on as much independence as possible. We are committed to providing safe, quality programs for children & adults. Free. Originally started as a program for stroke & heart patients, this nature group has expanded to any interested adult. The informal group meets rain or shine every Thursday of the year. Local naturalists guide these enlightening, leisurely paced walks. New nature adventures & discoveries every week. Dress well for outdoor walking.

Free. Pre-registration required on website. Join us as we hike North Park’s Blue Mist Road during the full moon. This hike will be similar in route & distance to the afternoon Blue Mist Road hike of September 8. However, this is during a full moon, when legend has it a tree used for hangings actually bleeds. There are many urban legends surrounding Blue Mist Road. Will you have your own tale to tell? Get more information & register online.
