PITTSBURGH – The Allegheny County Parks Department today announced its activities, events and concerts schedule for September 3-9. All events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted. Horses with Hope is a faith-based, non-profit organization that provides therapeutic riding and other equine-related activities to enhance the physical, mental, social & emotional needs of children & adults. Each session is taught by a PATH International certified instructor & trained volunteers who lead the horse and use side-walkers on each side of the rider. Each rider is instructed on horsemanship, grooming, tacking & mounted riding. The skills are determined by the rider’s capabilities & the instructor, while focusing on as much independence as possible. We are committed to providing safe, quality programs for children & adults. Courtyard Concert Series with Carla Bianco 

Free. Carla Bianco is a prolific and heartfelt singer/songwriter in the vein of Sara Bareilles and Sarah McLaughlan. She’s also #1 on the Reverbnation chart for Pittsburgh. Carla landed the role of "Maureen" in the Tony award-winning musical "Rent" in the West Coast Premiere and later on Broadway. Her song, "The Lover That You Are," was covered by Pulse and went to #1 on the Billboard Dance charts, also winning an ASCAP award.

Free. Originally started as a program for stroke & heart patients, this nature group has expanded to any interested adult. The informal group meets rain or shine every Thursday of the year. Local naturalists guide these enlightening, leisurely paced walks. New nature adventures & discoveries every week. Dress well for outdoor walking.

Venture Outdoors Tyke Hike 

$5 for non-members, $2 for Venture Outdoors members, $2 for kids. Relaxed difficulty. Come and join us for a Tyke Hike! We welcome parents or caregivers with children - newborns to 8 years old. Explore nature, touch the trees and look for little critters on these easy walks in the park. Adults and children can make new play date friends! Hike will be trail-friendly for strollers, slings, child-carriers or on foot. Strollers must be able to maneuver off-road. Children on foot should wear tennis shoes. We provide snacks after the hike. Family House Polo Match 

Family House's largest fundraiser is now in its 30th year. The Family House Polo Match draws around 2,000 people to Hartwood Acres each year for a fanciful, fun-for-the-whole-family affair complete with a professional polo match, tailgating, shopping and children’s activities. Family House Polo is one of the largest and most popular events in Pittsburgh. Over 30 years, this event has grown to become the largest polo fundraiser in the country, raising more than $3 million. National Ovarian Cancer Coalition Pittsburgh Chapter's 13th Annual 5 Mile Run/5 Mile & 1 Mile Walk to Break the Silence on Ovarian Cancer 

Day-of registration only. $35 for runners 19 & older, $25 for runners 18 & younger, $20 for survivor runners, $30 for walkers 19 & older, $15 for walkers 18 & younger, $15 for survivor walkers. The Run/Walk to Break the Silence on Ovarian Cancer is the largest fundraiser and awareness event for the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition. Organized by Pittsburgh Chapter volunteers, this event celebrates survivors, remembers those we’ve lost to ovarian cancer and increases awareness about ovarian cancer. Event day parking at Trader Horn (555 East Blazier Drive, McCandless Twp., PA 15101). Shuttle buses will run to and from the North Park Boathouse from 6:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Event day schedule:

All drivers must possess a valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance. All drivers are required to sign the Liability Waiver during registration. $69 per person. Easy activity level. Minimum age is 12. Ages 12-14 require participating adult. Have you always wanted to try fly fishing but didn't know where to begin? This three-hour course will teach you the basics of fly casting in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Our skilled instructors will introduce you to the four-part cast, false cast and roll cast. With plenty of time for practice and one-on-one instruction, you'll refine the skills essential to spending productive time on the water. We'll also explain how to strip and shoot line and tie basic fishing knots. Does not include fishing time on the water. Get more information.
