Exploration in County Parks
27 August 2013 - At tonight’s regular meeting of County Council, Council Member Matt Drozd will call upon County Council consider an ordinance which will place a referendum on the ballot to decide the fate of mineral exploration on County park land.
“My ordinance to place this subject on the ballot is about giving the people the opportunity to voice their opinion on major issues such as those affecting public land. I am a firm believer that citizens should have a say when it comes to any major decision that affects their future and day-to-day lives”.
Councilman Drozd believes that if the voters do decide in favor of mineral exploration that the revenue should be used in a manner to benefit the parks and the people directly. This delegation of funds is provided for in his proposal so that the County parks will continue to receive the maintenance to make them world-class parks and the people will benefit via tax relief from the remainder of the revenue generated by a lease upon approval by the voters.
