Candidates Reveal Hidden Talents and Humor for a Good Cause

Candidates’ Comedy Night 2013

PITTSBURGH – This evening, local and state candidates along with special guests earned big laughs from a standing-room-only crowd at Candidates’ Comedy Night 2013 (CCN) while raising money for the Allegheny County Music Festival Fund. The event was held at the Pittsburgh Improv in Homestead.

Special guests Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald; Jim Burn, Pennsylvania Democratic Party chairman; and Jim Roddey, Allegheny County Republican chairman performed along with the following candidates: Justice Max Baer, Judge Jack McVay, P.J. Murray, Bill Peduto, Mark Tranquilli and Josh Wander.

Gene Collier, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette columnist, returned to emcee the event and help move the festivities along with his own brand of comedy and the occasional critique of the candidates’ routines.

CCN, now in its sixth year, is one of the two fundraisers for the Allegheny County Music Festival Fund that benefits children served by the Department of Human Services and/or the Juvenile Section of the Family Division of the Court of Common Pleas. All proceeds benefit the Fund.

“We are so pleased with the support we receive from the candidates,” said DHS Director Marc Cherna. “Thanks to their participation and generosity, we’ll be able to continue to make a difference in even more children’s lives.”

This year’s CCN event raised approximately $37,000 for the Fund. Since its inception, the Fund has provided nearly 2,600 children with meaningful items or opportunities that cannot be provided through traditional government funding.
