PITTSBURGH – The Allegheny County Parks Department today announced its activities, events and concerts schedule for June 25 through July 1. All events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted. All concert acts and times are subject to change. Horses with Hope is a faith-based, non-profit organization that provides therapeutic riding and other equine-related activities to enhance the physical, mental, social & emotional needs of children & adults. Each session is taught by a PATH International certified instructor & trained volunteers who lead the horse and use side-walkers on each side of the rider. Each rider is instructed on horsemanship, grooming, tacking & mounted riding. The skills are determined by the rider’s capabilities & the instructor, while focusing on as much independence as possible. We are committed to providing safe, quality programs for children & adults. Free. Here's your chance to learn a sport that you may end up loving for a lifetime. "Books to Life" Cinema Series - The Lorax (PG) 

Free. Weather permitting. Attendees may bring food and non-alcoholic beverages. Adapted from the Dr. Seuss book, “The Lorax” tells the story of Ted Wiggins, a boy who lives in Thneedville. Ted visits the Once-ler, a hermit living outside of the city, and discovers the dark past that surrounds Thneedville’s lack of trees. After receiving a tree seed from the Once-ler, the responsibility of reviving the trees lies in Ted’s hands. Once again this summer, we are partnering with the Allegheny County Library Association to bring books to life. Pink Ribbon Round-Up Trail Ride 

All riders must sign up with an entry fee of $25 & commit to raising a minimum of $100. One in seven women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. Help us raise money to find a cure for this dreaded disease. This is a chance to participate in a great trail ride and raise money for breast cancer research. Participants will receive a gift bag, including a T-shirt and treats for them and their horses Trail bosses and drag riders will organize groups of 20 riders to head out on the trail for a three-hour ride. Afterward, free souvenir photos will be available. Riders and horses are invited to enjoy a hearty picnic buffet where prizes will be awarded to those raising the most money. Semi-Pro Football – Western PA Wildcatz vs. Northern Ohio Destroyers 

$7 for adults. $5 for children ages 12 & under. Season passes are $20. The Western PA Wildcatz Semi Pro Football Team was started to help young men advance in our community. There are many talented young adults who are unable to attend college in order to continue playing football due to lack of proper finances. The Heartland Semi-Pro Football League is a way from them to excel on and off the field. It not only gives them an opportunity to advance their football careers, but it also provides an opportunity for the community to come together and support local small businesses. Jeff Fromlack Memorial 5K Walk/Run 

$30 per person in advance. $35 per person on day of event. On January 27, 2013, we lost a great man to a tragic accident. Jeff influenced everyone he met in so many ways, and he always knew how to make people smile. Join us in running or walking in his memory. To celebrate his birthday the way he would have wanted to, we ask everyone to dress in “costume”(although it is not required). All proceeds will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Venture Outdoors South Park Quest Hike 

$8 for non-members. $12 for Venture Outdoors members. Advanced difficulty. Join Bruce Cridlebaugh on this thorough exploration of South Park. This advanced-level hike is intended to move at a brisk pace, covering a long distance (10-12 miles) over very hilly terrain. Hikers must be in good physical condition. This is not a casual walk in the park. The route connects the park's outermost trails for a day-long loop hike. In addition to some serious hiking, we will explore the history and special features of the park. Participants will receive a detailed hiking map of the park. Register online with Venture Outdoors.

Sara Watkins in Concert
