PITTSBURGH – The Allegheny County Parks Department today announced that 10-year-old Emily Cavacini of Shaler Twp. was crowned girls champion at the 90th National Marbles Tournament in Wildwood, N.J. On June 1, Emily won the Allegheny County Marbles Tournament in the Courtyard of the County Courthouse, making her eligible for the National Championship in New Jersey.
The “mibsters,” or marble shooters, played more than 1,200 games of “ringer” during the four-day national tournament. Participants competed for national honors, college scholarships and numerous prizes and awards.
Emily’s championship marks the 10th time in the past 10 years that a boys or girls national champion has hailed from Allegheny County. Previous national champions include Bailey Narr and Brandon Matchett in 2011, Penelope Bauer in 2010, Amber Ricci and John Leffakis in 2008, Alexandra Bauer in 2007, Keith Moss in 2006, Jamie Miller in 2005, and Carly Miller in 2004.
