PITTSBURGH – Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald released the following statement in response to the United States Air Force’s decision to keep the C130 mission at the 911th Airlift Wing:
“This morning’s decision from the Air Force is great news for our region and the 911th Airlift Wing. The base has a great story to tell about its cost effectiveness, efficiency and readiness capability and its impact on our economy is just as substantial. We are so proud to have them here in Allegheny County and thrilled that the Air Force has made the decision to keep eight C130s at the 911th with full manpower for Fiscal Years 2013 and 2014.
“This is a perfect example of what we can accomplish when we work together, across party lines, and at multiple levels of government, along with the community. Our federal officials – Senators Casey and Toomey, Congressmen Doyle and Murphy, along with former Congressmen Altmire and Critz – really led this fight, but were supported by Governor Corbett, Senator Smith, former Senator Pippy, Rep. Mustio and many more at the state level. The community also came together through the Military Affairs Coalition of Western PA, led by Chip Holzworth and the late Sally Haas. We did this together, with many, many more unnamed partners. Together, we made a very important difference and, today, we are all excited and relieved that these efforts were successful.”
