PITTSBURGH – Allegheny County Department of Human Services KEYS (Knowledge to Empower Youth to Success) Service Corp will celebrate National AmeriCorps Week by coordinating the following service projects:
- Friday, March 15, Community Beautification Project – assisting Allegheny K-5 magnet school students and faculty in creating fence art, painting sidewalk art games, picking up litter, and preparing gardens for student planting projects.
- Friday, March 15, Braddock Carnegie Library Cleanup – cleaning the woodwork, blinds, windows and provide a general cleaning of this National Historic Landmark.
In addition, KEYS Service Corp members will participate with other AmeriCorps organizations on Saturday, March 9, tending to the trees on the South Side and preparing the Rosalinda Sauro Sirianni Garden in Bellevue.
Throughout the week, current members and alumni will also celebrate with a potluck dinner, an “AmeriCorps’s Got Talent” Show and an appearance in the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
National AmeriCorps Week is a time for the organization to salute its members and alumni for their service, thank community partners and shine a light on the impact AmeriCorps members have every day in communities across the country.
DHS KEYS Service Corps members are committed to serving at-risk youth through tutoring, mentoring, and guiding youth with design and implementation of community service projects to benefit their communities. Since its formation in 1995, more than 1,600 DHS KEYS Service Corps members have spent more than a million hours serving thousands of youth. Additionally, members have recruited 12,030 volunteers who have provided more than 112,371 hours of volunteer service.
