Kane Ross resident Bill Perry won the 2012 Volunteer of the Year Award for his work with Lutheran Service Society and its Meals on Wheels program. Mr. Perry has been volunteering his time and energy to the program for more than four years.
The Lutheran Service Society’s Meals on Wheels program addresses the needs of older members of our community who may be suffering from chronic physical disabilities or illnesses. The program provides nutritious meals, daily visitation, and information regarding other forms of assistance from the Lutheran Service Society.
Tammy Sladic, Habilitation Specialist with Independence Professionals LLC, works with Bill at the Meals on Wheels program on Mondays of each week. “Billy packs between 75 and 100 bags with milk, bread, butter, fruit and dessert,” said Ms. Sladic. “We then deliver anywhere from 6 to 14 meals to the elderly in Troy Hill and Spring Hill,” she added.
Independence Professionals LLC are specialists in home and community habilitation services. The company is committed to helping its clients reach their personal goals and enhance their independence.
“The work that Billy does with Independence Professionals and Lutheran Service Society has helped him to improve his communication skills,” said Dana Nicodemus, Supervisor of Therapeutic Recreation at Kane Ross. “He takes great pride in his volunteer work.”
The Kane Regional Centers congratulate Bill Perry for his service at the Lutheran Service Society. He is a solid example of the value of volunteerism and going the extra distance to be of service to the community.
