PITTSBURGH – Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald today announced that Delta Air Lines has announced it will begin Saturday departures from Pittsburgh International Airport to Orlando, FL. A seasonal flight, the direct route will begin on February 16, 2013 and will end March 30, 2013.
“Orlando is one of this area’s most popular travel destinations. Having Delta add the flight, even on a seasonal basis, means that travelers have more options when making plans for Spring Break,” said Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald. “We’re glad that Pittsburghers will have this opportunity and hope that they take full advantage of it.”
Earlier this week, JetBlue Airways announced that it would add an additional daily direct flight from Pittsburgh to Boston. These additional options are a direct result of efforts by government, community and corporate leaders in Allegheny County who continue to make the case to the airline industry to increase their use of the Pittsburgh International Airport.
“Delta is currently the second largest carrier at the airport, accounting for about 19 percent of our total passengers at the Pittsburgh International Airport,” said Allegheny County Airport Authority Chairman David Minnotte. “We are thrilled to see the airline recognize the demand for additional flights to other locations from Pittsburgh.”
From Pittsburgh, Delta also flies nonstop to Paris, New York JFK and LaGuardia, Detroit, Atlanta, Cincinnati, Memphis and Minneapolis/St. Paul. The Saturday only service will begin on February 16 and end on March 30. The Pittsburgh to Orlando flight leaves at 8:00 a.m. and arrives at 10:19 a.m. The Orlando to Pittsburgh flight leaves at 11:05 a.m. and arrives at 1:21 p.m. Flights can be booked now at www.delta.com.
