Here We Go!
Residents from the Kane Regional Centers, lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fans, made their yearly trek to training camp at St. Vincent’s College on several occasions in August. The Steelers did not disappoint.
“The players signed autographs and listened to stories from the residents about past Steelers’ teams,” said Ken Schmigel, Supervisor of Recreational Therapy at Kane McKeesport. “Steeler kicker Shaun Suisham was a big hit with our crew. On his way back to the locker room, he joked with the residents, signed some autographs and took some pictures. The interaction between the players and our residents is beneficial to everyone.”
Each resident from Kane Glen Hazel receives their own memento book to carry with them to training camp. It has places for pictures, autographs and notes. Kathi Lindsley, Supervisor at Kane Glen Hazel commented, “The residents at Kane Glen Hazel have been going to Steelers camps for many years and it keeps getting better. They always look forward to ending the day with a chili dinner at Wendy’s.”
The Kane Regional Centers sincerely thank the Pittsburgh Steelers organization for their hospitality. The Steelers go to great lengths to ensure the safety and comfort of the residents. We also thank the Kane Foundation for their support, without which trips like these would not be possible.
