Event will benefit Animal Rescue League and feature demonstrations, activities, contests & adoptions
PITTSBURGH – The Allegheny County Parks Department is inviting all dogs, dog owners and dog lovers to the Third Annual Dog Day Festival from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 19, at the Hartwood Acres Park Amphitheater.
The free event will feature informative demonstrations by a number of groups and organizations, including Allegheny County and Armstrong County detectives and their canines. Staff from the Pittsburgh Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center will be on hand to provide information regarding its Dog Blood Bank and Dermatology Department. The Animal Rescue League will have pets available for adoption on the spot.
Dog owners will be able to get advice and recommendations from specialists, such as nutritionists, dermatologists and groomers. An artist will be doing special doggy caricatures. Entertainment will include a walk along the dog trail, trip to the off-leash area, canine kissing contest and other fun activities.
Petco will provide giveaways, including dog bones and food, dog scarves, water bowls, leashes, tennis balls, Frisbees and coupons, while supplies last. Embroidery from the Heart Dog Fashions, DogWatch of Greater Pittsburgh and Petco are providing doggy prize baskets, which will be raffled to benefit the Animal Rescue League. WTAE Channel 4 Action News Anchor Sally Wiggin will draw the winning tickets and participate in the day's activities.
The Dog Day Festival will be immediately followed by the Hometown Music Fest featuring performances by New Shouts; Joy Ike; The Patti Spadaro Band; Food.
