Five of Thirteen New Restaurants Use Healthier Cooking Oils
PITTSBURGH – The Allegheny County Health department today reported that twenty-two new food establishments opened in the County last month, including 13 restaurants, one wholesaler, a retailer, one grocery store, a convenience store, three coffee shops, and two confectionaries.
The Health Department’s monthly reports identify which new restaurants use trans-fat free cooking oils, and five of thirteen eateries opening last month cook with these healthier oils.
The restaurants using trans-fat free cooking oils are Penn Station East Coast Subs, 4203 William Penn Highway, Monroeville; Central Diner & Grille, 6408 Steubenville Pike, Robinson; Lviv European Deli, 940 Fifth Avenue, Coraopolis; Hello Bistro, 3605 Forbes Avenue, Oakland; and Little Chicago’s Pizza, 918 Main Street, Sharpsburg.
Eight other restaurants opened in June – Herk’s Pizza, 1917 East Railroad Street, Carnegie; The New Dante’s, 4131 Brownsville Road, Brentwood; J&L Grill Company, 2829 East Carson Street, Southside; Misaki, 860 Saw Mill Run Boulevard, Beltzhoover; May Flower Restaurant, 825 Wood Street, Wilkinsburg; Jessie’s West Side Market, 3038 Chartiers Avenue and Philly’s Pitt Stop, 1000 Chartiers Avenue, both in the West End; and Primanti Brothers, 1539 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon.
Nine additional food establishments opened last month: The Enchanted Garden, 73 South 13th Street and Palermo Gelato, 436 South 27th Street, both on the Southside; Niko’s Coffee, 437 Grant Street, Downtown; Three Rivers Confections, 3520 Smallman Street, Strip District; Sugar & Company, 4846 McKnight Road, Ross; Pet Smart, 3986 Penn Circle South, East Liberty; Niko’s Coffee Kiosk, 1025 Washington Pike, Collier; Colibri, 6741 Reynolds Street, Point Breeze; and Chadwick Convenience Store, 7356 Stranahan Street, Lincoln/Larimer.
