Health Dept. & Whole Foods Market Recall Cheese

Sold in East Liberty Store Between May 20 & July 3, 2012

PITTSBURGH – The Allegheny County Health Department and Whole Foods Market announce that Jean Perrin Edel de Cleron cheese sold in the East Liberty Whole Foods Market store is being recalled because some samples tested positive for listeria. The recalled cheese was cut and packaged in clear plastic wrap with a Whole Foods Market scale label, and a code beginning with 293351. The recalled cheese was sold between May 20 and July 3, 2012.

One illness has been reported. Listeriosis primarily affects older adults, persons with weakened immune systems, pregnant women and newborns. A person with listeriosis usually has fever and muscle aches, often preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms.  Anyone who has consumed the recalled cheese and developed symptoms should contact a health care professional.

Signage is posted in Whole Foods Market stores to notify customers of this recall.  Full refunds will be given at the store.

Customers who have the recalled product may contact the Health Department at 412-687-ACHD and arrange to have the cheese tested or dispose of the product in the garbage.  Please wash your hands immediately after touching the cheese to avoid any potential cross-contamination.
