In observance of National Women’s Health Week, May 13-19, the Allegheny County Health Department and Tobacco Free Allegheny are sponsoring a free event to promote healthy habits for women, girls and the entire family on Saturday, May 19.

HABITS Can be Good for You! (Healthy Attitudes Begin in Tradition) will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) Allegheny Campus, Tom Foerster Student Center, 800 Ridge Avenue, North Side.

The event aims to not only promote healthy lifestyles but also boost awareness and use of health screenings for women and raise the redemption rate for vouchers issued by the Farmers Market Nutrition Program for free fruits and vegetables

Appearing at the event will be Pittsburgh’s own nationally-renowned and award-winning radio talk show personality Bev Smith to encourage healthy lifestyles for every generation of the family.

Activities will include the following:  kid games and prizes; fruit and vegetable tastings; farmers market cooking demo offering samples and showing how to cook with seasonal items; health tips for every age group; debunking of common health myths; and a performance by Just One of the Bidwell Presbyterian Church Mime Ministry.

Adults attending the event will each receive a free reusable shopping bag filled with goodies, including a cookbook with recipes for items prepared at the event.
