Fitzgerald Announces Special Events in Celebration of Older Americans Month

PITTSBURGH – County Executive Rich Fitzgerald today proclaimed May “Older Americans Month” in Allegheny County and announced six special events to celebrate and show appreciation for older adults in our community.

“Older Americans Month was first proclaimed by President John F. Kennedy in 1963, and we are proud to continue the tradition of acknowledging and honoring the contributions of older adults in Allegheny County,” said Fitzgerald. “The theme for Older Americans Month 2012 is ‘Never Too Old to Play,’ and we have a number of fun and engaging events planned for our older residents.”

The following special events are free and open to all older adults:

Salute to the Oldies – Sunday, May 6, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
Musical entertainment featuring Cher, Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra impersonators
