Rev. Francis Z. Jurewicz, a chaplain at the Kane Regional Center in McKeesport, died Monday April 16, 2012. He was 82 years old.
Father Fran was ordained on May 30, 1959 and worked at various parishes throughout the diocese as a parochial vicar until 1971, when he received his first pastoral assignment to St. Leocadia Church in Wilmerding. He oversaw the construction of a new rectory, installation of a Moeller Pipe Organ and the placing of a bell tower while leading St. Leocadia. In 1994, he was named the first pastor of the newly formed St. Agnes Parish in Richeyville/Daiseytown. Rev. Jurewicz resigned from the Diocese of Pittsburgh in 2005 and began his duties as a chaplain at Kane McKeesport in 2006.
“He knew our residents by name and provided the Anointing of the Sick on admission and when the resident became seriously ill,” said Sister TJ Gaines of Kane McKeesport. “Father Fran celebrated mass six days a week at Kane and was present for all of the many church activities at the center. He served God’s people and God Himself with humility.”
The entire Kane Regional Center family mourns the loss of Father Fran. Our spirits are uplifted by all of the lives he touched at Kane McKeesport and throughout his ministry.
