Health Dept. Commemorates Earth Day with Poster Contest

Winning Posters Depict Benefits of Alternative & Renewable Fuels

Three students in grades 6-8 are winners in the 13th annual environmental poster contest sponsored by the Allegheny County Health Department in commemoration of Earth Day 2012, April 22.

The theme of this year’s contest was “Forget Fossil Fuels!” and encouraged students to explore alternative energy sources and renewable fuels, which help reduce air pollution and conserve natural resources.

The students were urged to create posters depicting their environmental knowledge of renewable and non-renewable resources and how they impact air quality.

First place was awarded to Leah Narkevic, 8th grader at Holy Trinity Grade School in McKees Rocks; second place to Mackenzie Reed, 7th grader at St. Bernadette School in Monroeville; and third place to Daria Och, 8th grader at Carmalt Academy of Science and Technology in Pittsburgh

The winning posters are available for viewing on the Health Department’s web site at Health Dept. Poster Contest.
