Public Input Wanted in Effort to Update Permitting for New or Existing Sources
A meeting will be held on Monday, April 9, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Clairton Municipal Building, 551 Ravensburg Boulevard, to provide an opportunity for public discussion and input on new air toxics guidelines for Allegheny County.
Originally developed in 1988 and now being updated, the air toxics guidelines are used by the Allegheny County Health Department to evaluate air quality permits for new or existing sources of toxic air pollution.
The discussion will cover why new guidelines are being developed, how risk for air toxics is determined and ways to address specific air toxics “hot spots.”
The agenda includes a question-and-answer session and time for statements from the public, who may sign up to speak at the meeting.
The meeting will be moderated by Dr. Donald Burke, Dean of the University of Pittsburgh’s Graduate School of Public Health and a member of the Allegheny County Board of Health and chairman of its air toxics committee.
