PITTSBURGH – County Executive Rich Fitzgerald released the following statement on the Shell Chemical LP announcement that they have signed a land option agreement in Beaver County to locate a petrochemical refinery (ethylene cracker) complex there:
“This announcement is a huge win for Western Pennsylvania and our region. Congratulations to Governor Tom Corbett, members of the House and Senate and the Beaver County Commissioners on this news,” said Fitzgerald. “This was not an easy win. Pennsylvania went head to head with Ohio and West Virginia for this refinery. Thanks to the hard work and commitment of the Governor, our Representatives and Senators and our region, we were able to put our best foot forward and bring Shell here.
“The $4 billion investment into this plant is significant, as are the jobs that will be created for its construction and the 10,000 permanent jobs that will remain here. This is a great news for our region and our economy.”
