The John Kane Center in Scott Township had residents seeing blue as the New Year approached.

Kane Scott brought entertainer Rafaele Scarpino to the center as the “headline” act for its New Year’s party on Dec. 30. The theme of the event was “Once in a Blue Moon,” as the center was decorated in blue while blue punch and blue Mousse dessert was served.

“Our residents enjoyed the show and I’m sure none of them were feeling ‘blue,’” said Marci Donovan, Kane Scott Recreation Therapy Supervisor. “The ‘Once in a Blue Moon’ party provided a great send-off to 2009 and had our residents, their families and our staff looking ahead to 2010.”

Scarpino’s repertoire included a number of hit songs from the “Rat Pack” era of the 1950s and 1960s when Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin were at the top of the music charts.

The New Year’s party was the second special gathering in a week. Kane Scott held its tea party on Dec. 23 as residents sang along with Rosalie Martin, a Recreation Therapist at Kane Scott. Coffee, tea and a well-received red jello pretzel salad were served.

“The tea party brought a festive spirit to the facility as the Christmas holiday approached,” Donovan said. “The residents really enjoyed singing along with Rosalie.”
