Oliver Miller Homestead to Host Children’s Harvest Festival on Sun., Oct. 18

PITTSBURGH — The Oliver Miller Homestead will host a Children’s Harvest Festival on Sun., Oct. 18, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at South Park.

Children can make various frontier crafts, including tin punchings and corn crafts, as well as enjoy games, butter churning, bobbing for apples, making apple cider and writing with authentic quill pens. Additionally, children can dress up in traditional frontier clothing and parents are encouraged to bring their personal cameras to take photos.

The Oliver Miller Homestead will sell its famous tussie-mussies for $1.00, a floral arrangement containing aromatic herbs such as Sweet Annie.

The Children’s Harvest Festival is an annual event hosted by the Oliver Miller Homestead for more than 20 years. It is staffed by volunteers and costs $2 for admission.

The Oliver Miller Homestead includes an original stone house and springhouse, a reconstructed log house, blacksmith forge, demonstration shed, barn, and various gardens. Its mission is to research and study the history of the Oliver Miller family, pioneer settlers in western Pennsylvania, and their homestead located in South Park, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
