The Allegheny County Health Department today reported that 10 new establishments opened in the County last month, including seven restaurants, one caterer, a food operation in a convention center, and a mobile vendor.

The Health Department inspects and approves new food establishments and announces their openings each month as a service to the public and the food industry.

“Our monthly reports are now identifying which new restaurants use trans-fat free cooking oils, and we are pleased to note that three of the seven new eateries opening last month cook their meals with these healthier oils,” said County Health Director Dr. Bruce W. Dixon.

The three new restaurants using trans-fat free cooking oils are Las Velas, 21 Market Square, Market Square; Rocco’s, 1600 Painters Run Road, Upper St. Clair; and Scoglio Greentree, 661 Andersen Drive, Greentree.

Four other restaurants opened last month: Speedy Weenie, 445 South 27th Street, Southside; Chu Cho’s Restaurant, 1032 Penn Avenue, Wilkinsburg; Max N Odi’s, 500 Monongahela Avenue, Glassport; and Subway, 225 Ross Street, Downtown.

These additional food establishments opened in September: J & G Catering/Sandie’s Café, 420 Chartiers Avenue, McKees Rocks; Monroeville Convention Center, 209 Mall Boulevard, Monroeville; and Good Food Mobil, 106 Andrew Drive, Jefferson Hills.
