Family activities, music, public safety and golf will take center stage on Father’s Day

PITTSBURGH — Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato today announced two special events on Father’s Day to kick off fundraising efforts for the Fallen Heroes Foundation, a new fund created by the Fraternal Order of Police Fort Pitt Lodge No. 1 that will provide support to families of public safety personnel who are killed or injured in the line of duty.

“The Fallen Heroes Foundation will continue the efforts of the Fraternal Order of Police in ensuring that families of fallen or injured public safety workers are taken care of if tragedy strikes,” said Onorato. “The people of Southwestern Pennsylvania have proven their generosity and compassion time and again, and this new foundation will be another opportunity for our community to come together and support the men and women who keep us safe every day.”

Family Day at Hartwood will feature public safety education booths, family activities, and live music beginning at 2:00 p.m. County Police and Guardian Protection Services will be fingerprinting and photographing children for identification cards, and the EMS County Animal Response Team will be on hand with its 9-1-1 training van and information on pet first aid.

Musical acts will include The Slant, Kardaz, Mahajibee Blues, and the Jimmy Adler Band. Gator Country, a southern rock band with original era members of Molly Hatchet, will perform at 7:30 p.m., and band members will present a $1,000 check to the Fallen Heroes Foundation. In addition, Penguins and Steelers jerseys will be raffled, courtesy of Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Visitors to the North Park and South Park golf courses on Father’s Day will also be asked to make donations to the foundation. Raffle tickets for six $500 gift certificates to Golf Galaxy stores will also be available for purchase at both courses.

“The tragic deaths of three Pittsburgh police officers in April illustrated how quickly our community can come together,” said Dan O’Hara, president of Fraternal Order of Police Fort Pitt Lodge No. 1. “We are grateful to County Executive Dan Onorato for helping us to kick off the fundraising for the foundation, and we look forward to making this an annual event to honor emergency personnel and their families.”
