Biography

On February 16, 2012, Andrew F. Szefi, Esq. was selected by Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald as the County Solicitor and was confirmed by County Council at its February 22, 2012 meeting.  A former partner in the firm of Goehring Rutter & Boehm, Mr. Szefi was a member of the firm’s Municipal Law, Litigation and Real Estate Practice groups.  Szefi has extensive experience in a variety of litigation fields, including municipal, real estate, employment discrimination, eminent domain and construction law.  In private practice, he also worked extensively with municipal and real estate development clients in the areas of zoning and land use, including the representation of zoning hearing boards and municipal governments.  Additionally, Szefi has represented both school district and private clients in real estate assessment appeals, gaining extensive knowledge and familiarity with all aspects of the county real estate assessment process.

A graduate of Mt. Lebanon High School, Szefi earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Richmond where he was a University Scholar.  He attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and is an active and licensed member in good standing of the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.  Szefi is married to Melissa Gilmore Szefi and resides in Mt. Lebanon with their three children.

The Allegheny County Solicitor is the chief legal officer of the county and also serves as the director of the Law Department.
