Salute to Nurses
Denise Kuziel, LPN
During the past 30 years, Denise Kuziel turned what was a job in health care into a passionate profession.
Kuziel followed her mother’s footsteps into the field in 1977 when she became a certified nursing assistant working at Kane, Ross. After a couple of years, she left only to return to her same position in 1984.
For 20 years leading to 2004, she raised her family before taking advantage of Kane’s Career Ladder Program to become a LPN. Kuziel now plans to continue her education to become a registered nurse.
Donna Tevis, RN
Garnering recognition for her passion and skills as a nurse is nothing new for Donna Tevis. Last year, she was voted Nurse of the Year by her co-workers, the residents and their families at John J. Kane Regional Center in Ross Township.
“I was very much honored that people thought highly enough of me to nominate me,” said Tevis, who has been at Kane, Ross since 1996. “I was shocked, but very proud and thankful. It was very nice to be recognized in that way.”
When it came to choosing staff members to be recognized by Salute to Nursing, Tevis was an easy selection for Janet Massimiani, director of nursing at the Ross center. Massimiani said Tevis’ work ethic, impeccable attendance record and excellent clinical skills made her a prime candidate to be honored.
“Donna is loyal and dependable. The quality of her work reflects high professional standards,” Massimiani said. “She is warm and genuine, and we are fortunate to have her on our team.”
Tevis said her commitment to her profession is genuine because she truly loves her work. “I like working with the elderly in long-term care,” Tevis said. “I really enjoy coming here every day. It’s rewarding.
