Emergency Medical Services

The Division of Emergency Medical Services is the newest of the five (5) divisions in the Department of Emergency Services. The EMS division assists more than 60 licensed EMS Agencies; comprised of more than 4,000 certified EMTs and Paramedics who respond to more than 200,000 calls per year in Allegheny County. The EMS division also supports more than 20 certified Quick Response and Rescue Companies to ensure for the rapid arrival of medical resources during emergency situations and to respond to the medical needs of the residents and visitors of Allegheny County.

The Division works with the EMS agencies and the 130 municipalities, businesses, industrial organizations and educational entities to ensure that the EMS and disaster medical needs of the community are met.

In addition to the operational responsibilities of the Division, the EMS Manager is the liaison and Chief Administrative Officer of the Allegheny County EMS Council, a not-for-profit corporation that represents the prehospital care community with issues of recruitment, retention, reimbursement, recognition and response.

The Division of EMS works closely with the other Divisions within Emergency Services and is actively involved with the Allegheny County EMS Councils Operational Support Team dealing with communications, multi-discipline preparation for disaster response and special event planning.
