Allegheny County Animal Response Team
The Allegheny County Animal Response Team (ACART) is equipped and prepared to respond in the event of any natural or manmade disaster where individuals and animals need to be evacuated. Once the team has been notified that their services are required, they will assess the situation and establish the appropriate temporary housing and needs necessary to take care of the displaced animals. Once the disaster has been cleared, animals will be returned to their owners. The ACART is available to aid any other county in the state of Pennsylvania upon request.
On May 7, 2009 the ACART team was dispatched to the Davis Ave Bridge implosion (above) to setup a the shelter for any animals that might have been affected. During this time we housed 5 dogs, 2 cats and 1 bird. The shelter was up and operational for 9 hours and had no issues with the animals.
