CYF hosts 11th annual Families United Celebration at Schenley Park
On Friday, August 19, hundreds of children and families gathered in Schenley Park to participate in the 11th annual Families United Celebration, an event hosted by the DHS Office of Children, Youth and Families (CYF).
DHS recognizes September as ‘National Recovery Month’
DHS is recognizing the month of September as “National Recovery Month” in support of the national campaign to promote of the societal benefits of treatment for substance use and mental disorders. In honor of this month, DHS celebrates people in recovery, lauds the contributions of treatment providers, and promotes the message that recovery in all its forms is possible.
Music Festival raises more than $15,000 for children and youth
On Sept. 4, the 12th annual Allegheny County Music Festival raised more than $15,000 to benefit the Allegheny County Music Festival Fund (ACMFF), despite persistent rain and muddy ground conditions.
DHS Holiday Project launching sponsorship drive
The 2011 DHS Holiday Project planning is underway and to help ensure children in need are able to receive a holiday gift, the DHS Office of Community Relations (OCR) is launching the Holiday Project sponsorship drive.
KEYS members volunteer at Flight 93 memorial, DHS raises funds to help memorial completion
The DHS Knowledge to Empower Youth to Success (KEYS) Service Corps, an AmeriCorps program run out of the DHS Office of Community Services (OCS), honored and remembered the 10th anniversary of the events of Sept. 11, 2001 by volunteering at the Flight 93 National Memorial site and participating in service work in Braddock, Pa.
OBH cosponsors conference in support of soldiers returning from deployment oversees
The DHS Office of Behavioral Health (OBH) is co-sponsoring a conference to help support returning veterans. The conference, called “Support for Returning Veterans: A Community Effort,” will be held Thursday, Oct. 13 at the Soldiers and Sailors Military Museum in Oakland.
