Senior Community Centers
Senior Community Centers are places for older adults to gather with old friends or make new ones, enjoy a meal or engage in a variety of activities. Life enrichment classes, exercise programs, trips to interesting places, transportation to and from the center, and financial and benefit counseling are some of the opportunities awaiting older adults.
Senior Community Center activities are geared to the social, intellectual, cultural, economic, emotional and physical needs or interests of adults 60 years of age or older. In addition, the information-and-referral staff provide assistance in applying for benefits and programs available to older adults in Allegheny County.
Lunch is also available Monday through Friday in the senior centers.
Larger centers are open eight hours daily, Monday through Friday. Smaller satellite centers are open four hours a day, around noon, to serve lunch.
Special hours during extreme weather
During extremely hot weather, select Senior Community Centers may be open extended hours to accomodate older adults. Information about these special hours may be found on our Cooling Tips page.
You do not need to live in the municipality or neighborhood of a Senior Community Center to attend. Please visit the Senior Community Center most appropriate for you.

Daily Meals
Lunch is available in every senior center, Monday through Friday. The menus are designed to provide varied and satisfying fare for older consumers. Specially prepared meals are also available to individuals with a dietary prescription. Meals are planned with input from older adults and designed to meet one-third of the older adult’s daily nutritional requirements.

Life Enrichment and Education
Senior centers offer a wide range of educational programs to engage the varied interests and needs of consumers. The programs are selected and designed on the basis of input from participating consumers and can include dancing, history, gardening and therapeutic massage. Topics are limited only by the imagination of participating older adults.
PrimeTime Health Program
The PrimeTime Health Program supports and encourages older adults in making informed decisions about consumer health issues. Fitness and exercise programs are a fun and invigorating component of the program.
Volunteer Programs
Opportunities are available for older adults to provide meaningful service to the community. Coordinators recruit and train volunteers to help in the center and in other neighborhood agencies. Opportunities may include clerical work, telephone reassurance, meal preparation, meal delivery to seniors who are unable to leave their homes and friendly visiting.
