Bureaus
Bureau of Information Systems (BIS)
BIS has responsibility for all IT within Department, develops and publishes information-security policies and procedures for Department and is the location of the “HIPAA Security Officer”. BIS performs the following functions:
1. Application Development and Support
2. Management Information Systems (MIS) Functions
3. Technical Assistance to Provider Agencies
4. Infrastructure Implementation and Support
5. “Public-facing” Web Sites and Web-based Software Applications
Bureau of Decision Support Services (DSS)
The primary function of DSS is to provide “information products” to DHS’s Executive, Program and Support Offices that assist them in making decisions. It is also the location of the “HIPAA Privacy Officer” for DHS, as required by DHS’s status as a “covered entity” under HIPAA regulations
