2-1-1 is coming to southwestern Pennsylvania
In the first month of “soft launching” the human services information and referral service phone line, 2-1-1, the service made more than 1,000 referrals.
Judge McVay hosts 4th annual tailgating event for youth in CYF, Juvenile Probation
On Saturday, Sept. 24, Judge John T. McVay Jr. hosted a tailgating party and provided free Pittsburgh Pirates game tickets for a group of youth involved in DHS Office of Children, Youth and Families (CYF) and Juvenile Probation services.
DHS offers disaster preparedness tips on web, intranet
As we experienced with the recent 5.8 magnitude earthquake that shook some buildings, the potential for a natural disaster to strike exists regardless of the season, the time or the place. With this in mind, DHS has posted disaster preparedness information, including a tip sheet provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) titled “How to Communicate During a Disaster.”
OBH, Family Services win another national award for case management transformation
The National Association of Case Management (NACM) named the DHS Office of Behavioral Health (OBH) and Family Services of Western Pa. the recipients of the Organizational Xcel Award at the 17th annual NACM Conference in Omaha, Nebraska. Stephen Christian-Michaels, Chief Operating Officer of Family Services of Western Pa. attended the conference and received the award on behalf of both organizations.
DHS raises nearly $1,000 to help fight breast cancer
Approximately 230,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year and the chances of survival are best if the cancer is detected early. To help promote breast cancer research and early detection, every year the month of October is recognized nationally as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
