DHS News November 2012

Finding “Forever Families” for DHS Children and Youth
A longtime goal of the Office of Children, Youth and Families has been ensuring safe and permanent homes for all of the young people in its care. As part of a new pilot program to expedite this, in December, DHS will begin implementing permanency roundtables – structured, in-depth professional case consultations that are supported by Casey Family Programs. These roundtables are an opportunity for those involved with a child’s or youth’s case to work even more diligently toward finding a permanent family.

Lexington Adoption Office
The goal of the 45 staff members of the Office of Children, Youth and Families (CYF) Lexington Adoption Office is simple: to provide “forever families” for local children and youth.

Bureau of Homeless Services
Over the upcoming months, DHS News will be spotlighting the bureaus, units and teams that make up DHS. In honor of Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week (November 10-18), the Bureau of Homeless Services is one of our November spotlights.

Story Quilt Decorates HSB Lobby
Visitors to the Human Services Building are now greeted by a temporary new addition: a story quilt made by the Lincoln Park Family Center youth and staff under the guidance of Tina Williams Brewer, master quilter.

Thanks to the support of staff, the DHS team experienced great success at the 2012 NAMIWalk of Southwestern Pennsylvania.

KUDOS: Keri Vanderpool and Traci Pristas
Denise Allen-Brown, foster care and adoption department manager in the Office of Children, Youth and Families (CYF), received a complimentary phone call from a former consumer who adopted his grandson.
