The Department of Human Services administers the Allegheny County Mental Health Behavioral Health Prescription Program. This program provides psychiatric prescription medication at no cost to eligible individuals. Eligibility is based on family income, number of people in the household, and expenses.
Eligible individuals must:
- Reside in Allegheny County
- Not qualify for prescription coverage through Medical Assistance
- Not qualify for third-party prescription coverage (Blue Cross/Blue Shield, PACE, or other private insurance)
- Lack the income to cover psychiatric medications
Individual eligibility is determined by staff at Outpatient Behavioral Health Centers. Eligible consumers are evaluated by Psychiatrists at these centers and are issued prescriptions specific to their need. The consumers may take their prescriptions to any participating pharmacy to be filled. The pharmacy network consists of approximately 40,000 pharmacies nationwide.
