July 17, 2014 - Allegheny County Music Festival to Benefit Children and Youth
The 15th annual Allegheny County Music Festival, featuring Rusted Root and several local bands, will be held August 31 at the amphitheater in Hartwood Acres Park in Hampton. Opening acts begin at 5:00 p.m. and Rusted Root will take the stage at 7:30 p.m.
June 6, 2014 Department of Human Services Area Agency on Aging Public Hearing June 13
The Advisory Council of the Allegheny County Department of Human Services, Area Agency on Aging (AAA) will hold a public hearing on Friday, June 13, 2014 at 10:30 a.m., at 2100 Wharton Street, second floor, Frick Conference Room. The purpose of the hearing is to solicit public comment on the 2014-2015 Budget Prospectus.
June 5, 2014 "We Rock Workshop" Concert to Benefit Allegheny County Music Festival Fund
On Monday June 9, 2014, the Allegheny County Department of Human Services (DHS) and Creative.Life.Support, the non-profit arm of Mr. Smalls Funhouse, are sponsoring a concert at Mr. Smalls Theatre in Millvale to raise funds for the Allegheny County Music Festival Fund. Youth involved with DHS, including current and former foster youth, will show off musical abilities honed through their participation in the "We Rock Workshop."
June 4, 2014 DHS SummerFood Program to Open on June 9
Starting June 9 through August 15, 2014, the Allegheny County Department of Human Services will operate the SummerFood program, a free breakfast, lunch and recreation program for children through 18 years old, as well as eligible individuals with disabilities, no age limit.
June 3, 2014 Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program Checks Available June 17
Allegheny County Department of Human Services Area Agency on Aging (AAA) will again be administering the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program. This program assists eligible older adults in purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables by providing a set of four checks for a total of $20.

Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald announced today that Allegheny County and the Allegheny County Economic Development Department were recognized earlier this week as recipients of the Governor’s Award for Local Government Excellence in the categories of information technology and promoting community/economic revitalization. The awards were presented at a ceremony in Harrisburg on April 15, 2014.
April 11, 2014 Fitzgerald Announces $14.3 Million HUD Grant to Combat Homelessness
Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald today announced that the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) has awarded a $14.3 million Continuum of Care grant to the County’s Department of Human Services to assist in its efforts to reduce homelessness.
February 21, 2014 Project Prom and Project Prom for Gentlemen Dates Set
The Allegheny County Department of Human Services (DHS) annual Project Prom giveaway of prom attire to eligible high school students begins on Saturday, March 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Project Prom Shop in Century III Mall, West Mifflin. The giveaway continues March 17 through 20, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
January 22, 2014 Casey Family Programs Honors Department of Human Services Director Marc Cherna With Lifetime Achievement Award
Allegheny County announced today that Department of Human Services Director Marc Cherna has been chosen to receive the Casey Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Child Welfare Leadership from Casey Family Programs. The award recognizes leaders who have made a substantial contribution to the field of child welfare and have helped to improve the lives of children and families whom they serve.
