National Disability Mentoring Day to Launch in Pittsburgh  
The American Association of People with Disabilities recently announced it will launch Disability Mentoring Day 2014 in Pittsburgh.

DHS Helps ACTION-Housing Preserve Needed Space  
The former McKeesport YMCA gets a renovation and a new owner, but is retained as a low-income housing option.

Workgroup Marks Progress in Supporting Parents with Intellectual Disabilities 
Recently, a DHS workgroup investigating improving supports for parents with intellectual disabilities reported that significant progress has been made in the past year to improve communication, service planning and development and referrals for such parents.

Staff Members Respond to Call for Concepts
DHS staff members submitted 40 ideas in the second Call for Concepts for utilization of the Human Services Block.

Kudos goes to LaVerne Conley, Children, Youth and Families (CYF) caseworker at the Northern Regional Office.

Kudos goes out to Ruth Szpanka, adoption caseworker at the Lexington Adoption Office, for her help in facilitating a meeting between an adoptee and his biological mother. Ruth is a Search Specialist who assists Orphans Court in linking adoptees with their biological families.
