The Child Welfare Demonstration Project
Pennsylvania recently launched the federal Child Welfare Demonstration Project, allowing the move away from linking the majority of federal funding to placements of children in foster care and other out-of-home settings. Instead, it permits funding methods that emphasize family engagement, comprehensive assessments, and quality interventions.

New Housing Meets Needs in Uptown
The Mackey Lofts, a 43-unit apartment building in Uptown that contains 18 units for people with hearing or sight impairments, or mobility issues, was dedicated July 15 after work kickstarted by the Local Housing Options Task Force.

Independent Living Youth Get a Lesson in History
About 25 youth in the DHS Independent Living program and nine staff members traveled to Gettysburg for a tour of the battlefield and museums, participating in the 150th anniversary of the key Civil War battle.

Brooke Rhodes, Community Integration Specialist in the Office of Behavioral Health, has garnered kudos for assisting in the complex case of a woman diagnosed with autism after her elderly mother had to be placed in a nursing home.
