Event and Donations Team
Who We Are
The Event and Donations Team is a unit within the DHS Office of Community Relations.
What We Do
The Event and Donations Team manages five signature events each year. Additionally, it undertakes the solicitation for and distribution of donated goods and services on behalf of the people served through DHS. The team also assists staff in other DHS offices with their event- / donation-planning processes.
Event and Donations Team Signature Events
The Holiday Project (October - December)
The Holiday Project provides gifts to brighten the holidays of children whose families are involved in the child welfare system. Donated gifts are collected from individuals, businesses, community groups and faith-based organizations.
Project Prom (March - April)
Project Prom provides formal attire to high schools students receiving services or eligible to receive services through DHS, through donations from retail establishments and the general public.
Senior Celebration in the Park (May)
Senior Celebration honors older adult residents of Allegheny County with a day of fun and learning that brings together free nutritious meals, health screenings, resource vendors, live entertainment and prizes at South Park.
Candidates’ Comedy Night (August)
A fundraiser for the Allegheny County Music Festival Fund, Candidates’ Comedy Night gives candidates for local, state and national political office a chance to put aside their partisan differences and deliver an entertaining routine to a full house of constituents.
Allegheny County Music Festival (End of summer)
Another staple fundraiser for the Allegheny County Music Festival Fund, the Music Festival attracts thousands of attendees to Hartwood Acres Park to enjoy nationally recognized musicians at an outdoor concert with food and fun for the whole family.
Individuals and groups are welcome to join us to ensure the success of our events and collection drives. Additional details about the options listed below are available on the DHS Giving and Volunteer Opportunities webpage.
Collection-drive hosts can rely on the Team to provide ideas, posters and pick-ups of formal attire (Project Prom), new gifts for children of all ages (Holiday Project), or new backpacks and school supplies.
Financial donors help to sustain
- Allegheny County Music Festival Fund which provides life-enriching items and activities, normally not available through government funding, for children and youth served by DHS
- DHS Donations Fund which supplements the Holiday Project and Project Prom
Sponsors provide wish-list gifts for individual children served by the Holiday Project. Consider starting a sponsorship drive with your family, friends, co-workers or faith community!
Volunteers play an important role in the Allegheny County Music Festival, Project Prom and the Senior Celebration in the Park.
