Child Safety Awareness Efforts

Child Abuse Prevention Month (April)

Since 1998, DHS has launched - with the support of other community partners – an annual campaign to raise awareness about the need to prevent child abuse. The campaigns have strategically focused on a number of important child protection and safety concerns affecting Allegheny County.

Choose your partner/caregiver carefully

This brochure, published in English and Spanish, reminds parents that choosing an appropriate caregiver, including a care-giving partner, is one of the most important decisions they can make.

Home Alone

This booklet, published in English and Spanish, serves as a resource guide to help parents determine if their child is ready and able to stay home alone.

Safe Sleep

Infants and children, one year of age and younger, are particularly vulnerable to injury and death when safe sleep practices are not followed. DHS issued the "ActionAlert - Safe Sleep Education" and the Safe Sleep Leave-behind Flyer to inform staff and caregivers about these dangers and how to reduce them.
