DHS Director accepts honors
DHS Director Marc Cherna will be honored at two upcoming events for his longstanding advocacy for children, youth and their families.
Cherna will be honored by his peers as this year’s recipient of the Betsey R. Rosenbaum Award for Excellence in Public Child Welfare Administration. The honor is bestowed annually on an administrator of a state or local public child welfare agency.
Award criteria are based on the extent to which the nominee promotes National Association of Public Child Welfare Administrators’ (NAPCWA) mission to “serve as a national leader for public child welfare regarding model policies, programs and practices which enhance the capacity of public child welfare agencies to improve outcomes for children and their families” and the extent to which the nominee’s work has regional or national significance.
The award ceremony will take place at the NAPCWA Spring Meeting in Washington D. C., March 3 – 5, 2006.
On April 7, Cherna will be recognized by Three Rivers Youth as the recipient of the Nellie Leadership Award for his leadership role and active participation in the process of supporting youth and families in this region.
Awardees distinguish themselves by acting in accord with the mission of Three Rivers Youth: ensuring that all young people in this region affected by poverty, neglect, violence and abuse have available the resources and services necessary so that they may change their lives and, with their families, gain hope for the future.
“I am honored to be the recipient of both of these awards, but they are really a reflection of the amazing work of our staff at CYF and throughout DHS,” Cherna said. “In accepting these awards and this recognition, I do so on behalf of everyone who lives and breathes these issues with me.”
