Adult Protective Services (APS)


Everyone is encouraged to call 1-800-490-8505 if you are concerned about the well-being of a person ages 18 to 59 years with a disability. The disability may be physical, intellectual or related to mental illness. Phone lines answer 24 hours a day, every day.

Some concerns that you would call about include suspicions of 

  • abuse
  • neglect
  • exploitation
  • abandonment 

As the reporter, you

  • may remain anonymous
  • have legal protection from retaliation, discrimination and civil or criminal prosecution
  • will be asked to provide
    • your name, address, phone (if not anonymous)
    • victim’s name, address and phone (if not self-reporting)
    • demographic data, if available
    • description of allegations
    • name of alleged perpetrator
    • physical/emotional health of victim
    • safety concerns
