About KEYS Service Corps

AmeriCorps is the national service movement that provides thousands of Americans of all ages and backgrounds with an education award and real world experience in exchange for a year of community service. AmeriCorps members help meet the nation's critical needs in the areas of public safety, education, health, and the environment. KEYS Service Corps in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has been an AmeriCorps program since 1995.

KEYS (Knowledge to Empower Youths to Success) Service Corps members serve at-risk Pittsburgh and Allegheny County area youth by providing safe places with structured activities, assisting with homework and classwork, implementing community service/service-learning projects, and involving community volunteers in service.

Members serve full time or less than full time at one of our partnering sites while receiving training and support from KEYS staff before and during their year of service. Our members are placed with a variety of schools, after-school programs, community-based organizations, and faith-based organizations.

While serving with these sites, members have the opportunity to work one-on-one or with small groups of school-aged youth. The youth with whom we work are typically between Kindergarten-12th grade.

Members boost their own skills and marketability by becoming leaders and learning how to get things done as a part of a National Service Program.

Whatever members end up doing with us, they know they're making a difference in the life of a young man or woman. They could be the first person who looks a student in the eye and says "I believe in you."
