William T. Cagney

William Cagney has been a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers for 30 years. He has worked 12 years at the University of Pittsburgh completing the Local Apprentice Program and the BOMA R.P.A. Designation International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 95. He founded the Local 95 Training Fund on October 1, 1996 and has been serving as Chairman of the Training Fund since its inception.
 
He was elected as President of the Pennsylvania State Council of Operating Engineers in 1992, and still serves in that capacity.  In addition to being a Vice President of the Allegheny County Labor Council and an alternate Vice President to the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO, he has served as chairman of the Pittsburgh Building Owner’s Health & Welfare Fund since 1995. He was recently appointed as a Trustee to the International Union of Operating Engineers General Pension Fund.

Deno De Ciantis, Ed. D.
 
Dr. Deno De Ciantis is the Director of the Penn State Center: Engaging Pittsburgh. His focus is to connect and engage the entire Pennsylvania State University system with local partners. Resources of University Park and commonwealth campuses are used to help provide appropriate solutions to real problems in the areas of sustainability efforts, alternative fuels, community and economic development, corporate research and development, professional development, and more.

Dr. De Ciantis holds an Interdisciplinary Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Duquesne University. Other affiliations include: past president of the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, current vice-president of The Pittsburgh Green Innovators Board, Duquesne University Century Club of Distinguished Alumni, Autumn House Press Board, Three Rivers Community Foundation Board, numerous Penn State committees, and various other local community initiatives.

Lou DiNardo

Lou DiNardo is the Regional Director for ISS Facility Services, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He brings over 20 years of operational experience to ISS and is responsible for the sales and operations for the Atlantic region as part of his job function. ISS Facility Services aims to optimize resources while reducing costs. Lou has been with the Pittsburgh branch of ISS since 1994, when it was formerly known as Central Property Services. He has worked for the City of Pittsburgh for over 20 years. His positions with City include the Assistant Chief Administrator, the Director of General Services, and the Director of Public Safety.

Lou received his B.S. from the University of Pittsburgh. He is a member of the Pittsburgh Building Owner Welfare Fund, the Three River Workforce Development Board and a Co-Chairman of the Allegheny County Green Action Team.

Court Gould
 
Court Gould is Executive Director of Sustainable Pittsburgh (SP), a public-policy advocacy group that affects decision-making in the Pittsburgh Region to integrate economic prosperity, social equity, and environmental quality bringing sustainable solutions to communities and businesses. Sustainable Pittsburgh established and launched a collaborative model to engage the government, private, and civic sectors on key regional issues.

Court has a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Southern California. He has 20 years experience in public policy and non-profit management and has consulted to national conservation organizations. Court is active in community organizations including the Greater Pittsburgh Nonprofit Partnership and Local Government Academy and serves on local, state, and national advisory committees dealing with sustainability and public policy.

Amanda Green Hawkins
 
Amanda Green Hawkins is Assistant General Counsel for the United Steelworkers Union, the largest industrial union in the United States. She has represented the Union in matters throughout the United States in various federal courts. Amanda was selected for a nationwide Labor, Employment and Workplace Committee for the Obama-Biden Campaign and served as a voter-protection attorney for the Democratic Party in 2004 and 2006, as well as for the Obama-Biden Campaign’s Counsel for Change in 2008. She serves on many local boards.

She is an alumnus of Duke University in Durham, NC and Northeastern Univ. School of Law in Boston, MA.  Prior to moving to Pittsburgh, she was a law clerk for the Hon. Lawrence M. Lawson in the Superior Court of New Jersey in Monmouth County, and has she also acquired legal experience in Newark, New Jersey, New York City, and Washington, DC.

Susan G. Hockenberry

Susan Hockenberry is the Executive Director of Local Government Academy (LGA). LGA offers training and technical assistance to elected and appointed officials, as well as citizens in southwestern Pennsylvania. Susan was the Director of Administration and Finance for the Township of O’Hara. She is a member of the International City Management Association and the Government Finance Officers Association and has received the both the Distinguished Budget Award and Certificate of Excellence for Financial Reporting from the latter.  

Susan serves on the Board of Directors of the Government Finance Officers of Western Pennsylvania, and Sustainable Pittsburgh.  She is a graduate of Leadership Pittsburgh XXI, and recently completed the Executive Program for Nonprofit Leaders at Stanford University. She has taught American Politics to college undergraduates, Civics and World Cultures to high school students, and has held her own as a Sunday school teacher for 4 & 5 year olds. 

Tommy Johnson
 
Tommy Johnson is Vice President, Government Relations with CONSOL Energy, Inc.  Through expansion and acquisitions, CONSOL Energy has evolved from a single-fuel mining company into a multi-energy producer of coal, gas and electricity. Previously, Mr. Johnson worked in the Government Relations practice at Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC.  Mr. Johnson also served as a legislative aide to United States Senator Rick Santorum (PA-R).

Tommy is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned his bachelor's degree in communications and rhetoric.  He is completing his master of public administration degree from the University of Pittsburgh's Graduate School of Public and International Affairs. He has recently graduated from the FBI Citizens’ Academy in Pittsburgh. Tommy is the Chairman of the Three Rivers Workforce Investment Board; Vice Chairman of the Pennsylvania Coal Association; he also sits on the Boards of the Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce, West Virginia Chamber of Commerce; President Washington Coal Club.

Gena M. Kovalcik
 
Gena Kovalcik rejoined Pitt's School of Engineering in July 2003 as co director of the Mascaro Center for Sustainable Innovation. She has 17 years of experience in development, marketing, and external relations.

Gena previously served as vice president for development at Shady Side Academy and, before that, as senior executive director of development and alumni relations at Pitt's School of Engineering. Prior to working at Pitt's engineering school, she managed donor relations and special events at Carnegie Mellon University. A native of Pittsburgh, Gena holds a B.A. from Penn State University in journalism and political science and a Master's of Management and Public Policy with a certificate in nonprofit management from Pitt. In 1997, Gena received the Outstanding Young Woman Professional Award.

John C. Mascaro
 
Jack Mascaro is the chairman of Mascaro Construction Company, L.P., a multi-faceted regional general contracting, construction management and design/build firm providing construction services to the industrial, heavy/highway and commercial markets. Founded in 1988, the firm operates in the states of Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, Ohio, and West Virginia, and has annual revenues in excess of $350 million per year. Under Jack’s direction, the firm has grown to be Number 203 on Engineering New Record’s Top 400 Contractors, Number 57 on ENR’s Top 100 Green Contractors, Number 109 on Design-Build’s Top 250 Design Build Firms, and Number 7 on Pittsburgh Business Times’ 25 largest Pittsburgh-area Construction Contractors.

Jack has won a number of awards including, but not limited to, 1980 Pittsburgh Young Civil Engineer of the Year Award, 1995 Distinguished Alumnus, University of Pittsburgh, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, 2001 Pittsburgh Civil Engineer of the Year Award, and 2003 Metcalf (Lifetime Achievement) Award, Engineer’s Society of Western Pennsylvania. Jack also serves on a number of civic organizations.

Davitt Woodwell

Davitt Woodwell is Senior Vice President of the Pennsylvania Environmental Council (PEC), a leading force in land and water conservation across the Commonwealth. He is responsible for the Council’s operations in Western Pennsylvania, as well as projects across the state. Working with PEC since 1991, Davitt has served as Vice President for Western Pennsylvania, Director of the Western Pennsylvania office, and Staff Attorney. He took a leave of absence during 2000 and 2001 to serve as Executive Director of the Riverlife Task Force which developed a master plan for Pittsburgh’s waterfronts.

A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, Davitt is currently a member of the boards of the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania, Friends of the Riverfront, and the Stonycreek/Quemahoning Initiative. He participated in the Department of Environmental Protection’s regulatory negotiation on the special protection waters program and served on the Pittsburgh Ozone Stakeholder Working Group and the Allegheny County Air Pollution Control Advisory Committee.
